RESOLUTION NO. 60-86
CREATION OF THE JEFFERSON COUNTY
EDUCATIONAL COUNCIL
WHEREAS, the rich variety and diversity of interests
evident among the residents of Jefferson County are important to
its culture and quality of life; and
WHEREAS, quality of education beyond the secondary level
is necessary to maintaining this cultural diversity; and
WHEREAS, no post-secondary educational institution exists
within Jefferson County; and
WHEREAS, community involvement in determining educational
needs and policy goals is and will be critical;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Jefferson County
Board of Commissioners hereby creates the JEFFERSON COUNTY
EDUCATIONAL COUNCIL consisting of not more than twelve (12) members
including one County Commissioner with the balance of the Council
membership to include a representative cross section of community
educational needs and interests.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the primary responsibilities
of this Council will be to:
1. Determine the post-secondary and continuing
education needs of the County's residents;
2. Develop a plan and strategy for providing
those needs;
3. Communicate directly with representatives of
post-secondary educational institutions to
develop programs for the citizens of Jefferson
County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that recogn~z~ng the role Peninsula
College has played and continues to play in providing educational
opportunities in Jefferson County and Council is authorized and
directed specifically to continue previously established coordina-
tion and communication with Dr. Paul Cornaby and his staff to resolve
problems and serve the increasing educational needs of Jefferson
County residents.

On July 14, 1986 the Board of County Commissioners adopted the attached
resolution creating a Jefferson County Education Council. A small
working group from that Council, including myself, will be the liaison
committee to continue working with you and your staff on our County's
programs and needs. Hopefully this will facilitate a closer working
relationship with which we can all feel more comfortable.
I would 1 ike to propose a meet 1ng fo:c the second or thi rd week in
August to discuss programs, coordination and budget, If there is a
specific day (except Mondays) that is convenient for you during the
weeks of the 11th or the 18th of August please let me know. We will be
happy to meet at the College, if you prefer.
Thank you again for the time and attention you have given us. We look
forward to a productive relationship with Peninsula College.
