Hello all, As a business owner of 40 years here and my wife and I have raised 4 children here, most all had to leave to find real jobs elsewhere. While we promoted retirement villas and sadly unsuitable growth only for the wealthy. Now we have a housing crisis and lack of work force, remember those young kids we sent away!. Bad planning all around, I have watched the powers that makes these decision that are detrimental to most working families of Jefferson County, sort of a economic genocide, spending tax’s dollars everywhere but here or only with the chosen few and not fixing the real problems. I have see in even recent Jobs and Economy meeting where employees of the County use personal opinions to threaten legal businesses “ as they should be Closed” this is so out of line and we need to get back on track with reality , not with a exploitive one sided progress. So the real question is, How do we change the attitudes of those who are public servants to truly serve the public. Not to just serve those that have free time to go to meetings and press for their own personal agenda and or causes… do we really need more big tents? and should we continue to ignore the social and economic disparities that are here in pursuit of the unknown. There has to equitable balance to progress and I feel this is best built from within a community, by fixing the foundations of the community, support local business first, they build a tax base and provide jobs that provided growth and development for families. We will grow our goal within our means and have a stable, more sustainable community at large. Without the Marine trades and others like the Port Townsend Paper corporation and our legacy business that had provide essential support throughout this pandemic we would be in a much worse position. Please take a broader look at what we can do with what we have and let’s fix some of the problems , before inviting in a bigger one. My two cents and I spend it wisely. Thanks Pete Peter R.
