RESOLUTION NO. 56-82
(RECOMMENDING ONE-WAY TOLL COLLECTION
AND SETTING OF THE FEE)
WHEREAS, the Hood Canal Bridge is scheduled to reopen to vehicle
traffic the latter part of 1982; and
WHEREAS, based on past performance, there has been considerable
traffic congestion on the said bridge caused by vehicles having to stop to
pay a toll and a large percentage of these vehicles are trying to meet a
specific ferry schedule for the Kingston/Edmonds or Winslow/Seattle ferries;
and
WHEREAS, tolls taken on one side of the bridge only for traffic
coming from the Kitsap Peninsula to the Olympic Peninsula (East to West)
would eliminate the said congestion; and
WHEREAS, personnel costs would be reduced because of tolls being
collected only one way; Now, Therefore,
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Board of Jefferson County Commis-
sioners, that the State Department of Transportation set a one way toll in
the amount of $1.50 per vehicle to be collected from West bound traffic
going onto the Olympic Peninsula.
