Brown, Chairman Board of Jefferson County Commissioners RE: Certification as to Standards Compliance - New Jails You mayor may not be aware that the State Legislature recently amended certain provisions of the City and County Jails Act of 1977 (RCW 70.48). One specific change which requires action by the Commission is Section 5 of Chapter 276, Laws of 1981, which reads as f 011 ows : IIA11 cities or counties which accept funding for jail remodeling or new construction under this chapter shall cer- tify to the Commission that the facility to be built shall, upon opening, meet all mandatory custodial care standards adopted by the Commission under RCW 70.48.050. The Commis- sion shall not make funding under this chapter contingent on compliance of the existing jail facility with standards adopted under RCW 70.48.050.11 In order to comply with the direction of this statute the Commis- sion has developed a simple, standarized resolution which we believe will serve the intended purpose. I enclose this resolution for your review and will appreciate your returning an executed resolution as soon as possible. Please feel free to reword this resolution to suit your own preference as to style. The enclosed should serve as a guide as to the necessary substance of the resolution. Please do not hesitate to contact me or Ms. Provost if you have any questions with regard to this matter. fi/' 0inJ:.Q.r" e"y, ~ ~ /' c.. /' ¿'2J-v',6~ ,.' "~ ."
