HomeMy WebLinkAbout120 79 RESOLUTION NO. 120 -7 9 WHEREAS, the fishing industry, including the fishermen, fish processors, boat yards , marine suppliers and related businesses, constitute one of Jefferson County's principal employers, and WHEREAS, drought conditions during the years 1974 to 1976 have adversely affected salmon spawning, resulting in a substantially diminished chum salmon run in 1979, and WHEREAS, the restricted return of chum salmon in the fall of 1979 resul ted in severe limitations on commercial fishing, and WHEREAS, the restricted return of chum salmon and the limited fishing opportuni ties have caused a significant loss of income to the fishermen and all fishing related businesses, and WHEREAS, many of the fishermen and many of the fishing related businesses are unable to meet their financial obligations, and WHEREAS, it is anticipated that the 1980 return of churn salmon will also be substantially reduced, resulting in continued financial hardships for fishermen and fishing related businesses in the coming year, and t\1HEREAS, financing to meet their current obligations lS not available for fishermen and fishing related businesses through standard financial channels; Now, Therefore , The Jefferson County Board of Corrmissioners hereby declares a state of economic disaster in the fishing industry, including the fishermen, fish processors, boat yards , marine suppliers and related businesses, located in Jefferson County.
