There are a few that would like to create an Eglon Old Growth Community Forest and Sanctuary. That a land transfer can be presented to an Eglon Community Forest. WHAT 3 REQUIREMENTS DOES THE DNR/ BNR REQUIRE FOR A LAND TRANSFER? 1. That the forest be retained as a working forest. 2. That the forest have public access to all the people in Washington. 3. That the forest will be managed for perpetuity. HOW WILL THIS LAND BE MANAGED? 1. Heritage Parks are governed by Kitsap County Parks. The forests are managed as an industrial forest and the public access is managed by volunteers, trails and parking lots etc. All harvest money going to Kitsap County. 2. Community forests are governed locally. The forests are managed ecologically and all harvest money goes to the community forest, to maintain, to educate, to construct parking, to construct toilets etc. THE VISION. 1. To create an Eglon Old Growth Community Forest and Sanctuary. 2. A destination forest to serve all of Washington State and beyond. 3. The State of Washington is encouraging more community forests through the Recreation Conservation Office. Good funding is available for purchase and for projects. FIVE GOVERNING PRINCIPLES. A lot of questions and many recommendations by departments and organizations have caused 5 principles to emerge. 1. Will be stewarded by a sustainable forestry plan. (The United Nations sustainable forestry plan) 2. Will recognize a joint-venture between Mother Nature and the local community. 3. Will enhance the ecosystem generated by Nature. 4. Must create public access for trails, for education and for recreation. 5. Will promote and respect all life found living in the forest. All 5 principles must be applied to every project being considered for the Eglon Community Forest. The creation of an Eglon Old Growth Community Forest and Sanctuary is a good investment for our North Kitsap way of life, for Nature and for our economy by having a destination forest All projects and harvesting are to be done locally.
