County Commissioners, Dr Allison Berry, and Willie Bence,
Please see this week’s KPTZ listener questions listed below for Monday, August 1, 2022 BOCC Update.
Thank you,
Lynn Sorensen

Questions for Dr Allison Berry:
1. How long are N 95 masks good for, and, can I leave it in my car when not in use?
Is COVID transmissible by touching the mask after wearing it?
2. I have a friend who contracted COVID and starting showing symptoms even though the COVID tests came up negative for the first 3 days.
She was testing due to a known exposure.
Then the test showed positive. (15-min test).
Was she contagious during those first three days?
Or is the 15-minute test a reliable indicator of being contagious?
3. When I receive the boxes of 5 free COVID home test kits each month, the expiration date on the boxes is usually within just a few DAYS of receiving them.
Are these tests still trustworthy even though you have to use some of them after that expiration date? If not, where can one get free non-expired tests?
4. Does the scientific literature about other coronaviruses and past pandemics give us any clues about how long COVID-19's endemic phase
could last?
Could we be social distancing and avoiding indoor crowded spaces for the rest of our lives?
Could 15 Days to Stop the Spread could turn into 15 Years to Stop the Spread?
What does the scientific knowledge suggest?
5. Three things today. First, I think it would be nice if we could get to know the real Dr. Berry (i.e. out of a lab coat) a bit more, so if there's time during the program, can you
answer these simple personal questions:
1. What's your favorite color?
2. What's your favorite season?
3. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
4. What's your favorite animal?
Second, are you an immunologist?
Third, I have a gay friend who has started really freaking out about monkeypox virus since your last show. When he brought it up, he told me that he had done some research on it. I asked
what he learned, and he sent me this CDC handout: https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/monkeypox/pdf/MPX_Social_Gatherings_Safer_Sex-508.pdf <https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/monkeypox/pdf/MPX_Social_Gatherings
_Safer_Sex-508.pdf>
Social Gatherings, Safer Sex and Monkeypox <https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/monkeypox/pdf/MPX_Social_Gatherings_Safer_Sex-508.pdf>
How can a person lower the chance of getting monkeypox at places like raves, parties, clubs, and festivals? When thinking about what to do, seek out information from trusted sources
like the local health department.
www.cdc.gov <http://www.cdc.gov/>
He says he's now going to start only having virtual sex, or if he can't avoid that, "masturbate together at a distance of at least 6 feet." I asked him if he wanted to do either and
he said no, not really, but that it was for the greater good.
Do you agree with the CDC's advice here? Would you, like the CDC, encourage virtual sex and socially-distanced masturbation practices to help slow the spread of monkeypox?
