The bill provides a boost to clean energy by extending renewable energy tax credits through 2033 and includes billions of dollars to advance clean American manufacturing. Consumers will benefit from new tax credits for buyers of new and used electric vehicles and incentives for household efficiency upgrades like heat pumps. Communities will benefit from significant investments including $60 billion to clean up polluted sites, more than $1.5 billion to reduce methane emissions, and $20 billion to support climate-smart agriculture practices. After decades of inaction, Congress is finally acknowledging its role in addressing the climate crisis as extreme weather events -- deadly floods, droughts, wildfires, and hurricanes -- are becoming more and more the norm. Call 1-877-774-8907 <tel:18777748907> now or text "house" to 69866 to urge your representative to pass the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. A vote is expected as soon as Friday. The real-world benefits included in the Inflation Reduction Act would not be possible without people-powered movements across the country articulating a clear vision for what's possible when climate, communities, and justice are prioritized. I want to be clear. This bill falls short of our vision. With Republicans committed to obstructing any meaningful climate action and very slim Democratic majorities in Congress, the limitations of our current political situation have been laid bare. Instead of fully meeting the moment, this bill too often reflects the priorities of senators with ties to the fossil fuel industry. The bill seeks to lock in a continued role for the fossil fuel industry in already heavily polluted places like the Gulf South and Appalachia, while expanding operations in the Arctic. This is unacceptable and the Sierra Club will fight alongside these communities to mitigate the harm that this legislation will cause. Passing this bill will be a significant step forward to addressing the climate crisis, but the fight will continue. We must redouble our commitment to creating safe communities with access to clean air and water, reforming our democracy, and creating a culture where our planet is not seen as expendable. Call 1-877-774-8907 <tel:18777748907> now or text "house" to 69866 to help us pass this bill through the House! Sincerely, Hebah Kassem Acting Director A Living Economy Sierra Club 1.
