After decades of fighting for the health and safety of our planet, we are deeply grateful to our Democratic environmental champions in the Senate for passing the Inflation Reduction
Act – the largest investment ever in climate, environmental justice, clean energy, and jobs. The Sierra Club calls on the House to swiftly pass the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022,
which puts us on the path to reducing emissions by 40 percent by 2030.
However, we acknowledge that these climate investments cannot come at the expense of frontline communities. It is unacceptable that oil and gas leasing provisions will be tied to clean
energy development. Members of Gulf Coast communities—as well as in other disproportionately affected regions such as Appalachia and Alaska—have named loud and clear that they need
the Sierra Club to show up for them. We hear you.

Energy company ConocoPhillips is proposing a new drill site in Alaska. Located on the state’s North Slope, the Willow Project is one of the largest new oil proposals in the country—and
would mean 250 new wells, 37 miles of roads, 368 miles of pipelines, and the emissions equivalent of 66 coal plants running for a year. The Willow Project is a climate disaster. If
allowed to proceed, it has the potential to entirely undo all the clean energy progress we've made and prevent the Biden administration from reaching its stated climate goals.

On August 1, groups submitted more than 31,000 comments asking the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to deny Mountain Valley Pipeline’s request <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=e13910f560ff

of those comments.

Federal money should not support dirty energy.
