While local jurisdictions can and do receive funds directly, the Department of Commerce is the State Administering Agency for Washington’s annual allocation of the funds. JAG funding is very flexible and can be used to support a range of program areas, including law enforcement, prosecution, indigent defense, courts, crime prevention and education, corrections and community corrections, drug treatment and enforcement, planning, evaluation, technology improvement, crime victim and witness initiatives, and mental health programs and related law enforcement and corrections programs, including behavioral programs and crisis intervention teams. The Advisory Committee is made up of members who represent a broad range of expertise in the criminal justice, social services and public health systems. Bringing their professional expertise to bear, committee members help us set current and future priorities for the program. Advisory Committee member organizations have received JAG grants for various purposes in previous cycles; that does not preclude them from serving on the Committee.
