IN SUPPORT OF MAST
WHEREAS, MAST (Military Assistance to Safety and Traffic)
provides transportation and paramedical attention to accident victims in
emergency situations;
WHEREAS, MAST serves virtually the entire State of Washing-
ton with units based in Fort Lewis and Yakima responding to appeals
within 100-mile radii;
'WHEREAS, MAST responds to appeals from local law enforcement
and rescue agencies in cases involving civilians who need immediate
transportation twenty-four hours a day;
WHEREAS, MAST participated in life-saving missions for 327
civilians including more than 100 children last year;
V..,rHEREAS, MAST missions covered automobile, logging and farm
accidents along with births, blood deliver, mountain rescue, natural dis-
aster aid and other emergencies;
WHEREAS, MAST represents the lessons of rescue and medical
attention learned in warfare but applied in the service of civilians;
v'I,THEREAS, MAST is a welcome and irreplaceable service to the
individuals in our community;
BE IT RESOLVED, that this BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, JEFFER-
SON COUNTY, WASHINGTON, congratulates MAST for its participation in
rescue operations which have avoided tragedies and given life and health,
and commends the pilots, assistants, and crew of MAST for their valor in
caring for our citizens in emergencies~ and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS,
JEFFERSON COUNTY, WASHINGTON express its deep appreciation and full
support of MAST.
