HomeMy WebLinkAbout014 70 e e Resolution Number ~~ 1970 WHEREAS, Jefferson County has had a total unemployment ratio of 7.6% for calendar year 1969 6.4% for calendar 1968, and 6.5% for calendar year 1967, WHEREAS, the average rate of total unemployment for 1970 would appear to be averaging well in excess of 6%, and WHEREAS, there appears to be no foreseable change in this trend, and WHEREAS, this economic situation creates hardship and deprivation to many people within this county, and WHEREAS, there are available for counties which show an unemployment rate in excess of 6% for over three years certain funds under the Economic Development Administration (E.D.A.) program for projects which are intended to lower the total unemployment rate and stimulate local economics, and WHEREAS, these funds may be made available by the said E.D.A. to applying counties which demonstrate need, furnish a statement of intent, and have available a current economic base study, and WHEREAS, it appears Jefferson County.presently can qualify for said monies and is in need of development programs designed to stimulate the local economy, now, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the board of Jefferson County Commissioners that it is their intention to apply for funds under the Economic Development Title IV program in order to aid in the stimulation of the economy of the said county, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the revision of the 1961 economic base study be commenced immediately in order to bring it to a current status by July 1, 1970.
