Subject: Geotech Report on the Referenced Property.
Dear Dr. Lorenzen:
Mr. David GreIlier of Atelier Northwest contacted me by phone and we agteed to meet at the interSeCtion
of U.S. Hwy 101 aud the:Duc::kalNsh River Road on 11-20-2001. We met in the aftemoon. Mr. Gre1lier
was accompanied by Mr. Rob Thomas of Robert W. Thomas Construction Company. We drove to your
ploperty, as an uadcr saat~ it was raining continuously, but we carried on. I took some photogtapbs
which explains the water drops OIl the p.ctures.
The t:bn:e of us walked over the p:operty, in question, and discussed where you wanted to build your house
and prase. There is a knoB to the North of the entrance access road, this is where I have shown the
location of the poposed house, see sheet 4. The drain field is along way from the JeSideace requiring a
long line, this. should be DO poblem.
The building site is located OIl a gentle slope of about 5 degrees from the horizon1al This area bas been
cleared for many years, ~ 10. am bas been overgrown with small Alders. The understory consists of
Salal, Ferns, Wdd H1K:k~ aod native grasses and shrubs.
The boose wiD be pIac:ed about 30 feet from the Southwest slope. This slope is 8JIIXOXim8tely 35 degrees
from the horizontal and is heavily overgrown with lush vegetation. See photogtapbs OIl sheet 7. The crest
of this downslope consists of a rock outcropping as shown on sheet 6. This building will overlook a lower
level slope towards the Dut"JcSlbush River which is part of the flood plain. Above the flood plain are rock
faces which are on both sides of the river.
The soil lop of John Scott Fleming. Engineering Inc. were used as my reference for typing the soils.
Brinnon General Contracting did the excavating for the test pits. The soil at the test pit IS more closely fits
the elevation aud type of soil that will be encountaed at the residence location. From 0 to 20 inches, light
reddish brown sandy loam till and wood waste, modemtely granular structure, low to high p:;udlation
resistance and many roots. From 16 to 32 inches , light gp.y sandy loam, massive structure, high
peuetration resistance. From 32 to 66 inches gray medium sand, very weak subangular blocky structure
low to moderate penetration resistance. See pbotogr3ph of test pit # 8 on sheet 8.
There is a top layer of decayed material several inches deep and once this material is removed and the
foundation is excavated for the footings down to undistuIbed ground the fooling can support at least
