Bulletin No. 3
February 26, 1954
TO ALL COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
There is attached a draft resolution covering the abolition of
the office of constable in any county.
This bulletin is sent to all counties in response to a number
of requests for a uniform type of aetion in this matter which
eould be used by any county desiring"to take such a step.
The statute permitting the commissioners to abolish the office
of constable in any county makes two requirf)ll1ents:
(1) TM.t, if the constable's office is to be'abolished
,in a~r county, all such constables in the county must
be abolished at ""the end of their ineumbent IS tel'm.
(2) That the action be taken 'by tbe board in the form
of a'resolution.
It is suggestedtbat such resolution be advertised a~d a pub~
lic hearing "held in the same manner that any ordinance pr
resolution creating a misdemeanor is advertised.
