Homelessness is a Housing Problem
Gregg Colburn, co-author, University of Washington’s College of Built Environments
Gregg’s recent book seeks to explain the substantial regional variation in rates of homelessness in cities across the United States.
In the recent book Homelessness is a Housing Problem, Coauthors Gregg Colburn and Clayton Page Aldern tested a range of conventional beliefs about what drives the prevalence of homelessness
in a given city—including mental illness, drug use, poverty, etc.—and found that housing market conditions, such as the cost and availability of rental housing, were far more influential.
Gregg will share findings about U.S. cities' diverse experiences with housing affordability and homelessness and offer policy solutions for unique regional contexts.
