Box 2070 1322 Washington Street Port Townsend, WA 9&368 (360) 385-9160 Frank Gifford, Public WoIts Director Monte Reinders, P.E., County Engineer . MEMORANDUM FROM: Board of County Commissioners . Monte Reinders, P .R, County Enim~ IIvl- TO: DATE: July 12, 2005 SUBJECT: Bridge Condition Report 2005 In accordance with WAC 136-20-020, WAC 136-20-060, and the National Bridge Inspection Standards, the routine biennial bridge inspection for all county bridges was conducted in 2005. Structurally, all of the county's bridges, except Barlow Bridge, are in good condition with no major deficiencies and require only routine maintenance. . As you are aware, in.March, 2004 Barlow Bridge, No~ 2W, on Oil City Road was determined to be structurally deficient. Public W orksobtained funding for bridge replacement through. the federal bridge replacement program, and is currently in the preliminary engineering phase of the project. Construction is planned for late 2005. Additionally, the Linger Longer Bridge, No. i3E, is functionally deficient because it . creates a restriction to the flow of the Big Quilcene River, which can threaten the' . integrity of the structure by scouring at the abutments. The recently completed, but not yet adopted Linger Longer Feasibility Study indicated, among its' findings, that a longer bridge is necessary. Public Works continues to investigate various solutions to the threat, and funding alternatives. cc: bridge report file ( t^AS-r ett.
