First, I want to give a heart-felt thank you to Justine Gonzales-Berg for all of her work, energy, and passion she has poured into Housing Solutions Network and our community at large. It's been a learning curve stepping into the role of HSN Director, but I couldn't have done it without the guidance and support of Justine and our Network. This summer the Gonzales-Berg Pratt family welcomed the cutest little addition- baby Jasper made his debut at the end of June! There have been even more changes since we last shared, including a pretty major overhaul to our mission, vision, and values. <https://housingsolutionsnetwork.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=38123 e1ad2608f9c4e51e6660&id=7fb2980089&e=b56e9d81e8> We are very excited to share with you a more in-depth commitment to our community through our approach and goals for this network. Thank you to all who were a part of this process and to Tara McCauley who so graciously guided us along the way. Eager to show off our revised vision and new resources, HSN hit the ground running this summer with a lot of momentum. In early June we hope all of you opened your mailboxes to find the Share our Spaces <https://housingsolutionsnetwork.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=38123e1ad2608f9c4e51e6660&id=069fb98890&e=b56e9d81e8> campaign brochures awaiting your review. By encouraging access to units that already exist (Accessory Dwelling Units or ADUs) or alternative ways to provide affordable housing (land lease to tiny homes), many individuals shared positive feedback to re-thinking their concepts of community-based solutions. Hitting our website in early July, we also highlighted the growing pressures local employers are feeling due to the housing crisis in our HSN + Team Jefferson joint report, “Serving our Community Through Tough Times: Stories from East Jefferson County Employers <https://housingsolutionsnetwork.us17.lis t-manage.com/track/click?u=38123e1ad2608f9c4e51e6660&id=3068cdae58&e=b56e9d81e8> " <https://housingsolutionsnetwork.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=38123e1ad2608f9c4e51e6660&id=80d55d1105&e=b56e9d 81e8> . If there was ever a time to make change, now seems like a pretty good time to start. We also ran into you at our Port Townsend farmers markets, spun vinyls with you at the Pourhouse, shared opportunities with you in Port Ludlow, and conversed with you at the last three Under the Tent events. We look forward to learning more about ADUs in September at the fourth installment of Under the Tent; we hope to see you there! Lastly, to round out the staffing transition, we welcomed home Kelsey Caudebec as our new Network Weaver in July. Kelsey moved back to town in July after many years away; the 5th generation Port Townsend resident returned home with her husband and hopes to settle down here for the long haul. As she looks ahead Kelsey's one hard hitting question is: "Will my family's Port Townsend history end with me because of unaffordable home prices?" Moving forward into the fall (I'm sorry- I can't believe I'm saying that already either!), HSN is looking forward to tackling some big advocacy and educational topics. In conjunction with PHLUSH <https://housingsolutionsnetwork.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=38123e1ad2608f9c4e51e6660&id=e8cc997d46&e=b56e9d81e8> , we will be sponsoring a Sanitation Justice educational series. She is finishing up her master’s degree in Adult, Professional, and Community Education, and was previously a non-profit coordinator and a neighborhood bartender. During her years away from PT, she maintained her connections and her interest in local issues. She is eager to reintegrate with the community and draw from her background to listen, connect, and organize at HSN, to boost folks’ ability to stay, work, and create in our beautiful town.
