Commissioners/Councilmembers/Executives/Administrators –
You should have received a meeting invitation to join State Attorney General Rob Ferguson during a special WSAC Virtual Assembly on Tuesday, September 6th to bring WSAC members up to
date on one of the proposed opioid litigation settlements and remind everyone of the next steps that EACH COUNTY must take to be part of this settlement. The proposed settlement includes
funding for ALL 39 Counties. Outside legal counsel representing many counties also engaged in the litigation are also invited to this meeting. This meeting is open to county officials
for ALL counties, both those that are represented by outside counsel and those that did not participate in the litigation.
As many of you learned during our August 15th Virtual Assembly, the state and many counties are currently involved in multiple lawsuits against opioid manufacturers and distributors.
The State Attorney General’s Office and attorneys representing approximately half of our 39 counties are in the final stages of one settlement and formula for distribution of the likely
statewide settlement/judgment proceeds. WSAC also provided the following information following our August 15th Virtual Assembly to help facilitate your participation in the settlement
agreement. Counties must sign and return the following items by Friday, September 23rd to be eligible for a portion of the settlement as well as to ensure the settlement is finalized:
