After decades of inaction and apathy, the US Congress approved the largest climate legislation in US history. The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) comes full of investments in climate,
clean energy, and environmental justice—and will create nine million good, family-sustaining jobs over the next 10 years.
But as Sierra Club Associate Director of Communication for Latino Media Javier Sierra says, the IRA also comes loaded with gifts to the dirty energy industry, which will end up disproportionately

Bristol Bay is home to the largest sockeye salmon fishery in the world and provides sustenance for 30 Alaska Native Tribes. It's a huge job creator and economy booster for Alaska—and
offers fishing experiences like nowhere else on Earth. Unfortunately, an enormous proposed open-pit copper and gold mine (Pebble Mine) continues to pose a dangerous threat to Bristol
Bay’s ecosystems and communities.

Our nation has a long history of race riots, massacres, and lynchings. One of the most pivotal took place in 1908 in Springfield, IL, when a white mob attacked and lynched Black people
and burned their homes. This galvanized the public and led to the founding of the NAACP.
While stories like this deserve a place in our history books and among our public spaces, we do not have any parks or monuments that tell these important histories.
Now, we're calling on the National Park Service to establish this location as a national monument to preserve its history and provide a memorial to honor riot victims and their descendants.
