Sixty-two percent of counties have federal public lands within their boundaries. Counties cannot collect property tax on this land yet must still provide essential services for residents
and visitors.
The PILT program supports county services, including road and bridge maintenance, law enforcement, search and rescue operations, fire protection, solid waste disposal, and environmental
compliance.
As Congress determines appropriations levels for FY 2023, counties support full funding of PILT this year and beyond.

~~> (SRS) is another important issue for county governments. This program compensates national forest counties for the decrease in revenues from the drop in timber harvests on federal
lands in the past 30 years.
While the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law renewed SRS through FY 2023, national forest counties need a long-term, sustainable revenue-sharing solution.
Capitol Hill Briefing
As part of these advocacy efforts, the National Association of Counties (NACo) will host a PILT briefing on Thursday, September 15 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. EDT. Congressional guest speakers
