This day celebrates the connection between people and green spaces in their community, inspires environmental advocacy, and encourages use of open space for education, recreation, and health benefits. To celebrate Public Lands Day on September 24th, we at the Washington Chapter are hosting outings in collaboration with our friends at the Center for Responsible Forestry <http://click.emails.sierrac lub.org/?qs=484ccdbb16d01d6926031f62654b069b3bffdf11278eef331aa2b88124c9484caf1cfe52ac272592631ff713c743c77461a7c9f700c99648> , the Northwest Watershed Institute <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/ ?qs=484ccdbb16d01d69fbe716787b1e6dc16580e28d8a2e359b11864d218f1a28c54e97f475b4534a0cdb7d36a6d3929de0f8695310a54afbad> and the Kitsap Environmental Coalition <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=4 84ccdbb16d01d695e46d35b7e9fc8d525d1ecd34d1c5c26b05ad673585c66db822a968ec285d2896c6dbdf2aa26e67bebb2db43b05448e8> . These outings are great opportunities to explore our State-managed Forests, learn about different ways to protect these places, and most importantly, have fun together in the outdoors! Check out all of our events and sign up below to explore some of the remaining old growth and mature legacy forests managed by the Department of Natural Resources. These unique mature forests are essential tools in combating climate change while also providing valuable cultural heritage, outdoor access opportunities, and other ecosystem services. Yet these forests controlled by our state agencies aren’t safe from unsustainable logging and clear-cuts. Protecting these places is crucial to meeting our 30x30 targets <http://click.emails.sierrac lub.org/?qs=484ccdbb16d01d6913c1110a727ade2953543f87f730460062f6e6b9d53def5836354b3c0d0d293c2c7b6f465b7c81e40f12122c37df0acc> to protect 30 percent of our remaining undeveloped natural areas by 2030 to address the climate crisis. We hope to see you out in one of these amazing forests on the 24th and look forward to exploring, protecting, and stewarding these important places together. See you on the trail!
