HomeMy WebLinkAboutJan. 2006 -MinutesJEFFERSON COUNTY PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING January 4, 2006 MINUTES OPENING BUSINESS Chair Judith Lucia called the meeting to order at 12:00 p.m. in the First Floor Conference Room, Jefferson County Courthouse, Port Townsend, Washington. Members Present: Judith Lucia (Chair), Joan Linderoth, Mike Ryan, Rich Stapf, Jr., Brian Miller, Mike Ryan Members Absent: Judi Mackey, Eileen Rogers, Philip Siemion Staff Present: Matt Tyler, Molly Hilt, Phil Saxton Guests: Commissioner Phil Johnson, Luke Cherney Quorum: There was a quorum. Agenda: The Agenda was approved on a Motion by Joan Linderoth, a Second by Rich Stapf and a unanimous carry. Minutes: The Minutes of December 7, 2005 were approved on a Motion by Rich Stapf, a Second by Mike Ryan and a unanimous carry, with the following amendments: Rich Stapf, Jr. was absent, and Guests included Mahala Henry. There was none. ROAD VACATION OLD BUSINESS Manager's Report Matt Tyler gave a brief update on the operations at the Parks and Recreation Department. With the transition to his new position as Manager, in addition to old duties, Matt indicated that a more in-depth report will be available at the next regular meeting. He did mention that the basketball league is successful and time-consuming. Staff Phil Saxton and Molly Hilt commented on the facility at lower Oak Bay being closed due to major erosion of the spit. It is hoped to be able to move on the Quilcene Community project by the end of the month. NEW BUSINESS Status Report: Frisbee Golf Luke Cherney, representing Olympic Disc Golf Club, a 2005 Community Park Grant awardee, addressed the Board regarding current location considerations. Due to high use, H.J. Carroll Park may no longer be thought compatible; however, Gibbs Lake and the Rumage Property were discussed. The club will continue to work with staff in an attempt to identify appropriate locations. Recreation Report Basketball, as previously noted, is very successful, with close to 300 players, representing Brinnon, Quilcene, the Tri-Area and Jefferson County, and Port Townsend. The Recreation Department, together with 4-H, will present a forum on youth summer planning at the P.T. Community Center, Thursday, January 12, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. Facility Report A fence is damaged at Memorial Field. The Rumage portion of the Larry Scott Trail is now open. SET NEXT MEETING DATE/ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 1:10 p.m. The next meeting is to be February 1, 2006 at 12:00 noon, in the First Floor Conference Room, Jefferson County Courthouse.
