Training activities will involve the use of blank ammunition. Announcements will be broadcasted from the base’s loudspeaker notification system. Residents living in the communities surrounding Indian Island and installation personnel could notice increased noise levels and activities associated with the training exercises those days. The Navy conducts these types of security exercises at installations across the world to ensure readiness and verify response procedures. NMII thanks the community for their continued support and understanding. Naval Magazine Indian Island is home to the U.S. Navy’s only deep-water ammunition port on the West Coast and the Department of Defense’s largest conventional ordnance storage site on the West Coast. Indian Island provides munitions support to Navy, Joint and Allied vessels while emphasizing safety, accuracy and efficiency.
