Box 2070, Port Townsend, WA 98368 (360) 385-9129 Fax: 385-9234 I am happy to announce that we have completed the Jefferson County Parks and Recreation (JCPR) Strategic Plan. I want to personally thank you for your Focus Group participation. We are making a public presentation of the strategic plan on Wednesday June 8ch at 7 p.m. at the W. S. U. Extension - Spruce Room (Shold Center) located on 201 W. Patison Street in Port Hadlock. The complete text of the strategic plan is also available on the Internet at: www."c arksandrec.or . In brief, here are a few of our conclusions from the Strategic Plan that we learned from you: ➢ East Jefferson County encompasses a wide variety of diverse communities, and the nature of parks and recreation needs is partly dependent on the nature of each community. ➢ There are regional park and recreation needs that should be provided through a regional approach to development and funding. ➢ JCPR has a mandate from the citizens of Port Townsend and the East County region to provide park and recreation services. ➢ JCPR is important to public health, public safety, economic development and education. ➢ There is a diversity of grass roots, private, non-profit and public organizations working to meet the unmet needs. Communities perceive the need for better coordination between these organizations. JCPR can improve recreation programming in communities today by helping to bridge and coordinate these local efforts. ➢ Communities are concerned about giving more funding to existing parks and recreation non -profits and government organizations given recent tax valuation increases; however, improved communication and coordination among providers will help us effectively plan for the future. ➢ Many citizens and community groups are unaware of the leverage JCPR provides their community through partnerships. JCPR needs to communicate its successes. www.co.jefferson.wa.us/publicworks/Parksrec Once again, thank you for participating with us on the development of our Strategic Plan. You were a member of the Focus Group because you are a citizen of Jefferson County who really cares about your community. We look forward to working with you in the active implementation of this Plan.
