Regan Nickels, New Superintendent, Sequim School District, will present on Sequim Schools 2022-2023 vision & beyond!
Nickels a longtime resident and native of Maine who worked for several years in Washington state, started her teaching career in eighth-grade mathematics and science before moving to
Bremerton with her husband John, a U.S. Navy Submariner.
While in Washington state, Nickels earned her master’s degree in educational technology from City University in Bellevue, and her certificate in educational leadership and her administrator
certification from Western Washington University in Bellingham.
After moving back to Maine, she worked in various administrative roles. She was Principal at George B. Weatherbee School (grade 3-5) and Reeds Brook Middle School, both in Hampden.
Nickels was named Superintendent of RSU 22 in July 2020 after serving as Assistant Superintendent of business operations in that district in Maine from 2017-2020.
Nickels was selected for Sequim's administrative position in March, 2022 and was sworn in as the New Sequim School Superintendent in July, 2022.

The Washington State Legislature has allocated a new round of grant funding for small businesses affected by the pandemic. $70 million was appropriated by the legislature for the next
round of Working Washington Grants: Round 5. In this round of Working Washington grants, available funds are set aside for specific targeted groups or sectors:
* 60% is identified for the arts, heritage, and science sectors, including those that operate live entertainment venues
* 40% is identified for most other sectors, including hospitality, fitness and personal services
General Timeline:

Applications open in 2023 for the 2022 tax year and are accepted through December 31, 2023. Individuals and families are eligible for the Working Families Tax Credit if they meet all
of the following requirements:
* Have a valid Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
* Lived in Washington a minimum of 183 days in 2022 (over half the year).

What are the income requirements?
The credit amount varies depending on the number of qualifying children and income level.
The maximum credit amount ranges from $300 to $1,200 depending on the number of qualifying children (see table below). These amounts are then reduced based on income thresholds, similar

literacy in post-disaster recovery. Some of the areas covered in the course include developing pre-disaster plans for financial literacy, understanding disaster assistance programs

Nearly half of small businesses don’t have a website and 75% don’t offer online ordering. Given that 80% of consumers do their research online before they make a purchase, that’s a lot
of lost opportunities to reach new customers and increase sales.
And that’s just in the United States. What few businesses realize is that 95% of all customers and two-thirds of the world’s purchasing power lie overseas.
Go Global was designed to even the playing field a bit for small businesses across Washington State. The program offers successful applicants up to $4,000 to design a new website, upgrade
an existing one, or add online ordering. You can even use the money to increase your search engine rankings and build a social media marketing machine.
The program opens September 13, here’s how it will work:

2. A team at Commerce will review the application and give it a thumbs up or thumbs down.
3. If you are awarded the grant, you will be referred to a list of qualified, vetted design firms that can help you build the site of your dreams. You will select the one you want to
work with. We highly recommend that you get more than one bid and ask for a fixed-cost bid so you can plan your budget accordingly.
4. When the work is all done, the design firm will let us know the project is completed to your specifications and satisfaction.
5. The state will then reimburse the design firm for up to $4,000 of the project cost. If the project was more costly than that, you will need to pay the balance to the design firm directly.
That’s all there is to it. After your project is done, you can continue to work with your web firm going forward on more bells and whistles or take things from there and do everything
on your own. Every business is different, so our job here at the state is to give you the helping hand you need to get online or get your site generating leads and sales for you.

Commerce is administering a limited program for eligible homeless service workers in Washington to receive a stipend of up to $4,000.
Homeless service workers with an immediate economic need and income at or below 80% of the county area median income where they live may be eligible for a stipend up to $2,000.
A second stipend payment of up to $2,000 is also available for individuals who received an initial stipend payment and are still working for the same eligible organization six months
after approval of the first stipend payment.
Eligible homeless service providers work directly on-site with persons experiencing homelessness or residents of transitional or permanent supportive housing.
