Biden, Jr. declared that a major disaster exists in the State of Florida and ordered Federal aid to supplement State, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by Hurricane Ian beginning on September 23, 2022, and continuing. The President’s action makes Federal funding available to affected individuals in the counties of Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Hardee, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Pinellas, and Sarasota. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster. Readout of President Biden’s Call with Lee County Commissioner Cecil Pendergrass and FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell This week, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. spoke with Commissioner of Lee County, Florida Cecil Pendergrass. FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell joined them on the call. They discussed ways the Biden-Harris Administration can support Lee County in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Ian, including meeting immediate needs for search and rescue efforts and power restoration as well as helping to address challenges faced by local hospitals and problems presented by damage to roads and bridges. The President reassured the Commissioner that the Administration would provide all the resources at its disposal. The Commissioner thanked the President for the support that has been provided thus far. The President and Governor committed to continued close coordination. President Biden was able to reach Mayor Kevin Anderson, and they discussed Fort Myers’ ongoing needs including support for the elderly members of the community, families that live in mobile homes and other community members who are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of the storm.
