Housing+Sanitation series starts this week!
Let’s break the silence! Flush: The Documentary is all about poop management. The 54-minute film covers a variety of topics presented by experts. <https://phlush.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0ad
23eb67ae0a232beffac36b&id=107656a37b&e=2d97d5dc8f> Among them are author Shawn Shafner <https://phlush.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0ad23eb67ae0a232beffac36b&id=761bfa4614&e=2d97d5dc8f>
of the People's Own Organic Project and Kailash Ecovillage founder Dr. Ole Ersson <https://phlush.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0ad23eb67ae0a232beffac36b&id=0ca0956a39&e=2d97d5dc8f>
, whose waterless toilet system is now legal in Oregon. Both will join HSN and Jefferson County folks on Oct 11 to discuss the film. On-demand viewing of Flush: The Documentary starts
tomorrow!

Why not have a Flush watch party over the long weekend? This film fosters understanding of how climate adaptation and environmental justice can affect housing affordability.
This Housing+Sanitation Learning Series is made possible with support through the Give Jefferson Campaign.
The Housing Solutions Network and PHLUSH have joined forces to explore how sanitation costs affect the availability of workforce housing in rural Jefferson County, located on Washington’s
Olympic Peninsula.

We’ve heard from you! Survey results are in!
In September, the Housing Solutions Network <https://phlush.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0ad23eb67ae0a232beffac36b&id=08064a0327&e=2d97d5dc8f> and PHLUSH <https://phlush.us2.list-manage.com/tra
ck/click?u=0ad23eb67ae0a232beffac36b&id=cc7e6d55a5&e=2d97d5dc8f> issued a survey to help shape our Learning Series. We are grateful to the 42 individuals who took the time to reply
with their preferences and notes on knowledge gaps and misconceptions relating to housing and sanitation.
Survey results are here <https://phlush.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0ad23eb67ae0a232beffac36b&id=cf84c1af64&e=2d97d5dc8f> .
Among your top preferences are two PHLUSH guiding principles. First is Sanitation Justice. We believe that toilet availability is a human right. Second is our conviction that we must
speak out on the need for safer, more environmentally sustainable treatment. Our vision is well-designed sanitation systems that restore health to our communities, our waters, and our
soils.
Topics attracting the largest majorities include greywater reuse, rainwater harvesting, and composting toilet systems. Even though most are not currently permitted in Washington State,
our trainers will focus on technologies based in science used elsewhere and for which ANSI/IAPMO WE•Stand code <https://phlush.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0ad23eb67ae0a232beffac36b&id=49e7de48
92&e=2d97d5dc8f> is available. Housing advocates in Jefferson County also want to know the options regarding toilet systems for those living in RVs and various types of small dwellings.
For this, we’ll check with environmental health officials familiar with the regulations and with the dwellers themselves.
Next up in the Housing+Sanitation leaning series….
Following the discussion of Flush: The Documentary on October 11th, next up is Sanitation Justice. On Tuesday, October 25th at 5:30 pm, we’ll hear from Abigail Brown of the University
of California. Abby will present actionable concepts that apply to the United States and to Workforce Housing availability in Jefferson County WA.
Next month’s sessions are scheduled for November 15th and November 29th, both Tuesdays at 5:30 pm. Please pencil in these dates; details will follow.
We highly recommend The Rich Earth Summit, which convenes online and in person November 1-3, 2022. Every year, Vermont’s Rich Earth Institute <https://phlush.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0ad23eb

Stay tuned for more related activities. Please recommend field visits, especially ones you can help the HSN-PHLUSH team organize. Watch for short reviews of the latest titles in water
