October 7, 2022 <https://gallery.mailchimp.com/6943e0d4535671f24022ca02a/images/cf04e6fd-150d-4420-a926-ee7a36f2d944.png> STATE NEWS Half-Billion Dollars to Fight Opioid Epidemic Will Start Flowing December 1 Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced that Washington state is set to receive the maximum $518 million under a resolution with three companies found to have played key roles in fueling the opioid epidemic. All 125 eligible local governments signed onto the half-billion dollar opioid resolution stemming from Ferguson’s lawsuit. The completion of the resolution ends Ferguson’s lawsuit. The first payments will begin flowing to Washington communities December 1. Grant funds can be used for new construction, renovation, and/or acquisition. Funded capital projects must result in an increased number of beds or service capacity, and the maximum award amount is $1.5 million. The competitive funding round is open to nonprofits, for-profit businesses, public entities, and Tribes. Projects must be located in a rural area. NACo has worked with Congress and the administration since March 2021 to ensure the final distribution formula reflects the original intent of the LATCF to support counties with federal lands within their boundaries.
