Thanks Frank,
Reconstruction in a known danger zone is always more complicated. The store is in a flood zone and in a tsunami zone. The regulations that are in place are intended to try to keep
property and people safe and can be daunting.
The road (State Highway) is also in the same flood and tsunami danger zone. There is brand new federal funding for infrastructure that might be worth looking into.
Local, state and federal rules. A project similar to the new bridge. Big stuff. Hard work.
Complaining is easy.

1) Anna Watts is a new Island resident, She is the "representative" on the "Pre-Application" and wants to re-open the store with coffee roasting. If you go back and look at the couples

2) There was mention on another post that Tom was told he only needed a roofing permit. First let me say that every time I've been to the DCD to ask a question, that visit (not "CAM")
was recorded on our property permit page. There is no record of the Rose's ever making any inquire as to what permits were needed to rebuild the store. As far as the assertion that
the requirements keep changing, as stated before, Oct 3rd 2022 was the date of the "Fire Restoration permit". Nothing has changed or been signed off on in the last 6 days since the
application was filed.
Having said that... We applied for a permit to build a new garage. Was the process difficult and expensive? Yes! It took nearly nine months and cost us an additional $7000 to set aside
a new reserve septic drain field and decommission our well. We worked with the county and they worked with us (because we were cooperative, not combative or evasive, the permit was
approved and the garage was completed).
The only other thing I will say is there is a group of people on the island that have the philosophy that "your better off to ask for forgiveness than permission" (we were told by
these people to put our garage up as an "Agricultural Building"). The price of forgiveness can be steep!
