It is a tremendous privilege to share that Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center has received a landmark philanthropic gift <https://secure.fredhutch.org/site/R?i=MTxkBZeINleDfigHXY6Vat50bSMEAWrc8_ScC6zstFjZ9Y-P2eTKkQ> : The Bezos family has committed $710.5 million over the next 10 years to dramatically increase the pace and breadth of medical breakthroughs in cancer and infectious disease. This contribution will enhance our ability to tackle incredibly challenging health problems from multiple angles simultaneously by providing sustained resources to: * Recruit scientific experts to work in and across immunotherapy, precision oncology, viruses and vaccines, prevention and early detection, data science and health disparities research. * Enhance research facilities, including support for the construction of a new, 390,000-square-foot building on Fred Hutch's South Lake Union campus that will house the recently announced Stuart and Molly Sloan Precision Oncology Institute. * Expand our clinical trials infrastructure to allow for more bench-to-bedside collaborations and increase patients' access to and enrollment in new studies, including ensuring that our trials include participants from groups that have historically been underrepresented. * Advance strategies that use the body's own immune system to treat cancer. This gift is designed to fuel many different areas of research at once. This multifaceted approach helps us make more discoveries more quickly, since progress in one area can inform and advance others, both internally and through collaborations with new and established partners around the world.
