Nate and I wanted to provide you with notes from the weekly meeting with the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. Thank you.
October 13
Top Line
* Consumer Price Index Figure Announcement. Inflation over the last three months is down 2 percent from last month, but we have more work to do. President Biden’s top priority is fighting
international inflation, especially in healthcare.
* Earlier this week, the President finalized rule to get rid of ACA’s Family Glitch rule.
* On Tuesday, the DOE previewed the Student Debt Relief application form. It is simple and short, so borrowers won’t need to upload documents to fill it out and it can be done on a phone.
The application will be available later this month, but no dates have been announced. The DOE will make an announcement soon about when the application will come online.
Camp Hale National Monument (Stephenne Harding)
* President Biden established a new national monument in Camp Hale Colorado. It is his first established national monument.
Cyber Security (Nick Leiserson)
* President Biden proclaimed this month as National Cyber Security Awareness Month.
* The Administration is starting to implement the Cyber Security Grant program in the IIJA and released the first tranche of money. The Administration is also working to ensure that
all of the IIJA projects are cyber secure.
* The Administration is also working to develop a national cyber security workforce strategy to support both public and private cyber security.
Infrastructure (Luisa Paiewonsky)
* The White House held a summit about implementing the spending packages (IIJA and IRA) to ensure the Administration is meeting its goals on time, on task, and on budget. They released
an action plan on build.gov <http://build.gov>
* As they approach the year mark, the White House if focused on modernizing its approach on how it delivers the benefits in the spending packages.
* The Department of Commerce and the Department of Interior are coordinating to ensure proper implementation of broadband projects in tribal communities.
* Agencies are also coordinating complete projects in similar areas simultaneously to reduce disruption caused by construction.
COVID-19 Booster
* The FDA and CDC recently approved the COVID booster for children age 5+.
