Farmer of the Year. <https://mcusercontent.com/2a560412753cc77f18a4d65b4/images/37d07adf-0533-4c9d-91b0-6cebc1406179.png> News from your Land Trust Community Comes Together to Make More Farmland Conservation Possible! <https://mcusercontent.com/2a560412753cc77f18a4d65b4/images/074263bd-ae35-bc53-ebb0-f25848f22b89.jpg> Thank you! Yet again, the community has come together to raise the funds necessary to conserve local farmland! Over the past two months, one-hundred-forty-four households closed the gap on the funding need to conserve two farms! The $60,000 of need was met as dozens of supporters rallied at the very end of September to meet an anonymous $5,000 match offered by a local passionate farmland advocate. As the funding thermometer shows, major funding comes from various governmental grants that bring our local tax dollars home and put them to good use maintaining critical local farms. Most importantly, support from individuals like you who provide the leverage and match to seal the deal! <https://mcusercontent.com/2a560412753cc77f18a4d65b4/images/6a7f6f00-5caf-4be1-50a5-1e8132d46893.jpg> Your support reaffirms the Land Trust's confidence and commitment to doubling the pace of farmland conservation over the next ten years. (Read Board President Karen Westwood’s statement here <https://northolympiclandtrust.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=2a560412753cc77f18a4d65b4&id=414c2b8fe0&e=e371357277> .) Our first year of this increased pace was a huge success because of you, and we’re excited to bring forward more farms up for permanent conservation in the years ahead. With funding now secure, Mid Valley Farm and Dungeness Hub are poised for all of the paperwork to be signed with their permanent conservation happening near year-end. Stay tuned, and we'll be sure to keep you posted! Though there wasn’t a Harvest Dinner this year, the volunteer Harvest Committee put in just as much effort to help us meet this important funding goal. We are grateful for the creativity, dedication and gumption of Suzi Schuenemann, Della LaCour, and Tara Demers. Thank you! Thank you all for your support, and for protecting and conserving our special way of life on the Peninsula. We couldn’t do this work without you! As we have worked to reschedule this anticipated conversation, Dr. Pyle's recovery has proven very slow. Dr. Pyle regrets to share that we need to postpone this conversation indefinitely while he regains his health. Everyone wishes Bob the very best! butterfly photo credits: Karen Holtrop <https://mcusercontent.com/2a560412753cc77f18a4d65b4/images/794f7ca5-d5b8-5eb3-f68a-5991e022c666.jpg> Waiting for the Rain This month's Phenology File features executive director, Tom Sanford, as he muses and tries to research recent weather trends to see just how weird it is that we haven't see significant rain on the Peninsula yet this fall.
