We are undertaking a study / survey of both county owned forestlands and lands managed by DNR as part of the State Forest Transfer trust (SFT) for the benefit of the county and related Junior Taxing Districts. It would be extremely beneficial to have a DNR staff person (or two) to review our work as we near completion and also participate in a hybrid (online and in person) public meeting we are planning for the last week of November. I am copying our consulting forester, Malloree Weinheimer, as she is the one doing the survey with her team. I am attaching her Scope of Work (SOW) here. Note the date for the workshop has changed from what we had in the SOW. Also copying Commissioner Franz as I initially spoke with her about this possibility on the BNR tour last month. Critically, we are not looking towards a recommendation for reconveyance of all SFT lands as has been the rumor flying around but rather to understand what and where the forests are on the ground and how the state managed tracts are positioned in relation to county forests – and what is on those tracts.
