The Port Ludlow Village Council Board of Directors has voted to endorse the proposed merger of the fire departments.
Based on the evaluation of fire department merger between Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue (PLF&R) and East Jefferson Fire & Rescue, the Village Council's Emergency Management Committee unanimously
agreed to request the PLVC Board to vote for an endorsement of this merger.
A special PLVC Board Meeting was held on September 28th to address the committee's request. Chief Black attended the meeting and presented the board with updated information on the benefits
of the proposed merger. After a period of Q&A's, a motion was made and by a vote of 7-1 the board approved the motion to support this merger. The motion is as follows:
“RESOLVED, that the Port Ludlow Village Council board of directors deems the proposed merger of Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue (PLFR) into East Jefferson Fire Rescue (EJFR) to be of direct
or indirect benefit to the Port Ludlow community and therefore recommends that the proposed merger be approved.”
Based on the information presented by Chief Black and his colleagues from the Fire District, it appears that:
* The merger is financially and fiscally responsible and will lead to long-term sustainability.
* Service levels for fire mitigation and EMT response to Port Ludlow and surrounding areas will be enhanced.
* Our Port Ludlow firefighters will gain much needed career path opportunities to create future leaders.
* The fire department leadership and fire fighters union approve the merger.
