Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. ________________________________ Find out the topics of discussion for this Monday's County Virtual Assembly. <https://wsac.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6943e0d4535671f24022ca02a&id=3975b9299b&e=30e2d4045f> Riparian Restoration Recommendations Monday, October 24 at 12:00 pm Bills were proposed during the 2022 legislative session that would have adopted a new statewide standard of “site potential tree height” for riparian buffers, added a new goal to the GMA for salmon recovery, and mandated counties to update their comprehensive plans and development regulations to require protections and restoration of riparian management zones in accordance with the new standard (HB 1838 <https://wsac.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6943e0d4535671f24022ca02a&id=9c4f0e2d4f&e=30e2d4045f> and SB 5727 <https://wsac.us3.list-manage.com/track/c lick?u=6943e0d4535671f24022ca02a&id=a67f27a178&e=30e2d4045f> ). They did not make it out of committee. While the bills failed, a budget proviso was passed that requires the state to hire a third-party facilitator to engage stakeholders in discussions about riparian restoration and develop recommendations to be reported by November 1, 2022. Plauché & Carr have been retained as the facilitators, have conducted interviews, and held one round-table discussion. They have also completed two initial reports. They will discuss their findings, the process so far, and answer questions.
