HomeMy WebLinkAbout103022 FW_ DNR's Carbon Sequestration and the Junior Taxing Districts________________________________ ALERT: BE CAUTIOUS This email originated outside the organization. Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. ________________________________ Greetings, County Commissioners Kate Dean has been quoted in the Peninsula Daily News as saying that DNR’s Carbon Sequestration “would generate about a tenth of what a timber sale would” (see graphic below). Timber sales may not mean much to the County. But for our local fire and cemetery districts, timber sales can provide as much as 30% of total revenue for a year (actual percentages bounce around from year to year). I know that my local fire district depends on accumulations of timber revenue to pay for expensive capital purchases like ambulances (more than $200,000 each), gurneys (about $50,000 each), and fire trucks (even more). As you are aware, governments can only increase their tax revenues by 1% each year without a vote of the people. So in inflationary times when everything costs more than the increase in tax revenues, timber sales provide much needed income. Please consider your junior taxing districts. How do you expect them to survive when you choke down their much needed revenue? I would appreciate an answer. David Neuenschwander 142 Old Lindsay Hill Rd. Quilcene, WA 98376 360.765.3151
