The 1908 building has been used as a school as recently as 2018, but earlier this year, property owner Pacific Lutheran University attempted to delist and demolish the county-listed landmark as part of a sale agreement with a private developer. In August 2022, after the Pierce County Landmark and Historic Preservation Commission voted to recommend against those two actions, PLU renegotiated the sale to exclude the school building and provide the Parkland community up to 12 months to develop a viable preservation plan and purchase the $2.85 million property. Washington State is home to 29 federally recognized Tribes, each with their own Tribal governments that preserve culture, improve lives, protect resources, and build community on a daily basis. Tribal governments are a major driver of Washington’s economy—spending billions of dollars on the purchase of goods and services from private companies and generating millions of dollars in federal, state, and local taxes. Revenue from gaming and other Tribal enterprises also pays for critical services that benefit all Washingtonians. These essential services include health care, public safety, housing, environmental and natural resource programs, and transportation. How many people are directly employed by Tribal governments in Washington State?
