Below you will find more resources, news, and upcoming events from your federal partners. Dear House America Leaders, Last week, HUD, VA, and USICH released initial results <https://www.hud.gov/press/press_releases_media_advisories/HUD_No_22_227> from HUD’s 2022 Point-in-Time <https://www.hud.gov/program_offices/co mm_planning/coc/pit-count> (PIT) count that point to an 11% decline in homelessness among veterans between 2020 and 2022, the largest drop in homelessness for veterans in more than five years. This drop in veteran homelessness coincides with the historic resources in President Biden’s American Rescue Plan and a return to evidence-based, Housing First practices under the Biden-Harris Administration. Compared to 2010, when the Obama-Biden Administration first set a national goal to end veteran homelessness, homelessness among veterans has declined by 55%. “One veteran experiencing homelessness will always be one too many, but the 2022 PIT Count shows that we are making real progress in the fight to end veteran homelessness,” said VA Secretary Denis McDonough, who serves as the chair of USICH. “There is still a long way to go, but under President Biden’s leadership, we at VA, HUD, and USICH will not stop until every veteran has a good, safe, stable home in this country they fought to defend.” The reduction in veteran homelessness is a reminder that we know what it takes to solve homelessness. When Congress invests in housing assistance and supportive services and when leaders at all levels of government commit to scaling evidence-based approaches, we see real progress. Thank you for all you do to end homelessness for veterans, and thank you for continuing to House America!
