The meeting will include three things. 1. A recap describing where we are (step 5 of 6) 2. Present the top industries in Jefferson County based on the analysis 3. Time to listen to the steering committee and discuss potential for next steps. This will be the fun part. I have heard from many of you that the survey was cumbersome. Some have felt that the list of NAICS codes provided for us describing comparable and desirable businesses didn’t seem to fit Jefferson County. Others have had questions and critiques of the process. All of this is valid! Now is the time we can provide feedback and plan to shape the outcome. Something to consider is that this analysis is based on a theory of economic development based on business attraction. As Jefferson County has constraints that affect business attraction, and many people here do not like attraction as a strategy to begin with, please understand that it will benefit us to understand this traditional perspective, and we can design how we go forward with this information. Potential next steps could include... - A discussion of how to invest in the community - A discussion of how to invest in existing industries - are there opportunities for import substitution (an analysis to discover products we use here that we currently buy from outside the county - can we make those items locally?) - are there opportunities for expansion or innovation Possible Outcomes - Development of business recruitment strategies (attraction) - Catalog of existing business across the region - Piloting a program to address infrastructure needs or areas of interest (i.e., remote workforce development or broadband) - A supply chain analysis. Your voice is important, and essential to the process. Please join us. RSVP by a simple reply to this email.
