Commissioners,
In my testimony at the hearing to adopt the county’s TIP, I specifically mentioned that the sight lines when turning from Jacob Miller onto Hastings are particularly hazardous and don’t
appear to be compliant with county roads’ requirements. I expressed similar concerns about the intersection at Cape George Road and Discovery Road.
I raised these concerns in the context of the TIP because “countywide safety” is the #30 item on a 32-item list. I believe it should be given higher priority.
While maintaining adequate setbacks at intersections is the responsibility of the private landowners, the county should be more proactive and enforce its sight line laws.
Accidents / injuries shouldn’t be the only indicator that action is needed. There are laws in place, and they need to be enforced.
If a formal complaint is needed to initiate the type of enforcement that is needed, let me know – I’ll be glad to do it.
Thank you,
Tom Thiersch
