Wildfires are part of most ecosystems in the West and large wildfires have occurred for millennia. However, current wildfires seem different from those occurring historically. Join us to learn some of the reasons why, covering topics like: * Fire behavior and fire regime that help us understand ecological and environmental effects of fire * Current fire issues including restoration and national fire policies * Relation of wildfires to climate * Native American traditional burning A professor at the University of Washington, Ernesto teaches wildland fire management, fire ecology, the role of disturbances on forest dynamics, and traditional ecological knowledge. He also conducts research throughout the Americas and his lab studies a wide variety of wildland fire topics—including the subjects of this program!
