Dear John,
Washington State Chapter Director, Jesse Piedfort, has moved into a new role with Sierra Club as of November 15, 2022. While we expect to begin our search for the next permanent Chapter
Director in the near future, we’re excited to announce that chapter Organizing Program Manager, Sept Gernez (they/them), has been appointed as the Acting Chapter Director.

Sept has been a key staff member for Sierra Club Washington State since 2016 - serving as the lead staff organizer for two successful campaigns to stop major new fossil fuel facilities,
and has also taken lead roles in Sierra Club work for equity and justice. Sept’s primary focus as acting chapter director will be to support the work of chapter staff, along with coordinating
with national campaign staff and lead volunteers engaged in campaign and program work in WA.

At the same time, our chapter becomes one of the first to work within the new Sierra Club staff structure, where Chapter Directors are supervised by national staff. Jocelyn Silverlight,
Senior Manager for Chapter Support, will be Sept’s staff manager and will also be working in partnership with chapter volunteers to recruit, hire, and manage our next permanent chapter
director. Welcome, Jocelyn!
Statement from Julia Reitan, Vice Chair of the Washington State Chapter:
Jesse’s tenure as Director leaves the chapter at its strongest ever – a driving force in precedent-setting environmental action and a key leader for change internally.
Along with our ongoing work in Washington State to protect forests, waters, wildlife, and salmon, plus shift from fossil fuels to clean energy, the Sierra Club will start the search
for a new Chapter Director.
We all look forward to working with Jesse in his new role, and to working with Sept Gernez as Acting Chapter Director, and Jocelyn Silverlight as we recruit our next great Chapter Director.
