This refuge for people and wildlife remained free, open, and well cared for throughout the entirety of the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to our community. It’s a favorite destination for locals and visitors alike, and it’s a beautiful reminder of how powerful we are when we come together for something that we love. As you leave the parking lot and follow the main trail to the beach, you'll pass a regenerating forest. This is the Legacy Grove, where we honor members of the John Willits Legacy Circle with trees planted in their names. By including the Land Trust in their estate plans, these folks made a lasting impact on local conservation. A trail now meanders through the Grove thanks to the work of dedicated volunteers over the summer. If you have yet to explore the Legacy Grove Trail, it is certainly worth a visit in the new year. There’s another exciting plan for the Lyre Conservation Area in 2023 and beyond - a prairie restoration project! With the help of partners, we are carefully developing a plan to restore this sensitive and important habitat that offers boundless cultural and ecological value. Join us on this multi-year restoration journey by signing up to volunteer <https://northolympiclandtrust.us3 .list-manage.com/track/click?u=2a560412753cc77f18a4d65b4&id=62f1adab12&e=e371357277> , donating, and following along in our social media and newsletters. Together, our community can continue this work to make certain that the places that define the North Olympic Peninsula and ensure its productive beauty will be available for generations to come.
