Greetings Commissioners,
As a resident of Port Townsend, I was pleased to hear that the BOC is considering options for preserving the DNR land known as the Quimper Lost Wilderness. I understand the legal obligation
that DNR has to produce income from publicly held land under its jurisdiction. However, logging must not be considered as one of those options.
Yes, my home is built with wood. Yes, we all utilize products that rely on harvested trees. Yes, the revenues from DNR land contribute to a stable tax base. However, the confirmation
that this land is indeed old-growth forest supersedes those interests. I ask that the BOC pursue any and all options for preserving this land. I will attend the workshop on Nov. 30
to educate myself on the options, and I hope to see my Commissioners seek solutions that reflect our long-standing community values which support preservation of this critical surviving
biome.
Thank you,
Sharon Rader
