Dear Commissioners:
I write to urge you to work with DNR to ensure permanent preservation of the Quimper Lost Wilderness, a rare and precious stand of old-growth trees that provides habitat for sensitive
species of plants and wildlife, and that sequesters a significant amount of carbon. DNR's current management plans provide no long-term protection for this forest, yet it is precisely
the sort of parcel that meets DNR's initiative to use state lands to sequester carbon.
There are plenty of other timberlands in East Jefferson County that are owned by DNR or private landowners that are sufficient to support the needs of the county's timber industry.
The Quimper Lost Wilderness is special, and we will do a great disservice to future generations if we allow it to be logged.
Thank you.
