HomeMy WebLinkAboutGC Presentation 12.01 Final1 Envision Port Townsend Golf Course A Community Discussion December 1, 2022 Carrie Hite, Director of Park Strategy Purpose Launch a community engagement strategy to explore alternative concepts and feasibility for the Port Townsend Golf Course, including the possibility for extending the golf use. 2 Project Overview •Port Townsend Golf Course Community Engagement Strategy current conditions and alternative uses/concepts, with possibility for continued golf. •Lease expires in December 2023. •Community planning and city council decision making about the future of the golf course. •Alignment with Mountain View campus. 3 Project Background •Various discussions over the years. •National Golf Foundation study: January 2019 •PROS plan March 2020 •June, 2020: City Council gave direction for two-tiered approach •RFP for 3 year operations. •Community engagement to explore current and alternate uses. •October, November 2020: •Council discussions to continue operations for 3 years, and explore alternative uses, including continued golf use. ( links to Council meetings in packet) •Feb, 2021: City entered into a three year lease with Gabriel Tonan Golf Shop, inc. 4 Milestones National Golf Foundation study of Golf Course Q1 2O19 PROS plan adopted, included input for golf course Q2 2020 Q4 2020 Overview for Council RFP for operations Unanimously adopted option for community engagement City enters 3 year agreement with Gabriel Tonan Golf Q1 2021 Launch Community Engagement community discussion Q2 2022 Q2 2022- Q2 2023 Community Engagement 5 Q2 2023 City Council decision about future of golf course. Community Outreach and Involvement •Landscape Architect: Concept planning with the community, cost/benefits analysis, timing/phasing/costs of concept plans. •Engage a community stakeholder group to help guide the process. •Launch community engagement framework. 6 Landscape Architect •Request for Qualifications ( RFQ) published June 29, 2022. •Six RFQ’s received by July 25, 2022. •Staff and community review process and interviews with three •Unanimous selection of Groundswell Studios. 7 Community Stakeholders •Community Stakeholder Committee seated. Have been meeting since September.
