Severe weather is heading our way and Chief Black wants our community to be aware and prepared.
Key Points:
* Colder conditions are expected through much of the week (overnight low temps at or below freezing)
* A few areas will have the potential to see heavy snow accumulations and a slower transition to rain including the Kitsap Peninsula/Hood Canal area.
* Lingering rain likely to change back to snow late Wednesday early Thursday. Significant accumulations cannot be ruled out.
* Additional storm systems at the end of the week into early next week could bring additional rounds of wintery weather to the lowlands.
* Slightly decreased snow risk this evening.
* Slightly increased snow risk tomorrow evening.
* Slightly increased wind risk this evening – National Weather Service (NWS) compared it to wind event just a few days ago.
* That event did not cause any major disruptions, but combined with heavy, wet snow, this one has more potential too.
* Still, combined with the decreased snow risk tonight, not a major cause for concern, but something to keep a close eye on.
* Winds and light snow can still cause visual issues for drivers, if nothing else.
* Snow looks to be heaviest around Hood Canal area, so folks leaving the Peninsula and/or living in the Shine/Paradise Bay areas should exercise extra caution.
* Refreeze still a distinct potential.
