The Decs are purchased and maintained by the West End Business and Prof group. Bruce Guckenberg goes through them all prior to them going up and replaces all the burned-out bulbs. Then the city of Forks public works guys put them up for us. They are really expensive, and we have not purchased any new ones recently but you can support our efforts by purchasing a Shopping spree Raffle ticket! Currently, we need to purchase new GFI plugs for the poles as some of them have failed and then they have to be reset. Shopping Spree tickets can be purchased from myself, Christi, at Outfitters, and through many participating businesses. The grand prize is $500 Santa Bucks to be used at any WEBPA member business! The drawing will be held at 1 pm (immediately following the blue ticket drawing) at Forks Outfitters. Tickets can be purchased right up until the drawing. DECEMBER 1O IS ALL ABOUT THE KIDS! The goal was to change the context of this stretch of US101 to slow traffic down. Studies have shown that installing jersey barrier tends to cause drivers to drive faster. Chip seals and friction safety – Our region traffic engineer was not aware of any studies that correlated reduced accident rates to chip seal areas. However, WSDOT is evaluating High Friction Surface Treatments in areas with high crash locations. These treatments do not replace the normal surface but are an additional layer. Recessed Pavement Markings – Olympic Region continues to maintain the use of recessed pavement markings (RPM’s) to maintain visible delineation through all weather conditions. There are exceptions if the pavement surface is too thin. Surface markings can wear quickly and RPM’s are more likely to withstand snow plows, wet weather events and tire wear. Concern was raised during the meeting that these had not gone back in where a chip seal had recently gone through. I did not catch the exact area of where this might have been and am hoping it may have been completed now. If not, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. Hoh River Bridge – The bridge was built in 1931 and will meet bridge replacement criteria in 2031 however replacement will be decided by funding availability. These treatments do not replace the normal surface but are an additional layer. Recessed Pavement Markings – Olympic Region continues to maintain the use of recessed pavement markings (RPM’s) to maintain visible delineation through all weather conditions. There are exceptions if the pavement surface is too thin. Surface markings can wear quickly and RPM’s are more likely to withstand snow plows, wet weather events and tire wear. Concern was raised during the meeting that these had not gone back in where a chip seal had recently gone through. Hoh River Bridge – The bridge was built in 1931 and will meet bridge replacement criteria in 2031 however replacement will be decided by funding availability.
