Re: Land Use Application MLA05-0276 for Marrowstone Island Water

As property owners on Marrowstone, we object to the P.U.D. spending any
more time or rate payer money on another "review" of the Marrowstone
Island Water System due to obscure technicalities. We feel the real issue
boils down to fire protection and public health.
When this water system is built, Marrowstone residents will have the
comfort of knowing 312,000 gallons of water will be available to protect our
commurrity from fire. With warmer, dryer weather the past few years our
fire danger has risen. All it would take is another dry spell,. the right wind
direction, a spark and the result could be a disaster. We have competent
firefighters, but they do not have a sufficient supply of water to protect life
and property in the event of a major fire on the island. If such a disaster
were to occur, we would helplessly stand by and watch it "bum!" The only
"review" we need now on this project is to determine that enough fire
hydrants will be installed to adequately supply the fire fighters.
We can no longer rely on individual storage tanks and systems that may not
protect against pathogens. We need the protection of a municipal system
that is tested regularly and meets strict sanitary guidelines.
We find it preposterous that someone living in a community that has safe
drinking water and fire protection wants to deny the residents of
Marrowstone these. same necessities!

The real issue is that Marrowstone needs a pure water system and adequate
water supply to provide fire protection as soon as possible.
