RE: Marrowstone Water System
Dear Sirs:
My wife and I are very much in favor of the Marrowstone water
project. We voted in favor of it and were hoping that we would
have city water by this summer. However, the lawsuit by those
opposed has delayed it sUbstantially, and in the meantime, inter-
est rates and the cost of pipe has risen substantially. We
urge you to approve this system speedily before costs rise further.
This project will have many benefits to the residents of Marrow-
stone. First of all, even widely scattered water hydrants will
be of great help in case of fire instead of having to shuttle
tankers to!the fire. As a result, fire insurance rates should
decrease island wide. Also, the costs of maintaining wells and
pumps will disappaar and electricity costs will go down when well
pumps are no longer required.
We know personally of several households who have to haul water as
their wells have either failed entirely or have salt water intru-
sion to the point that the water is not only undrinkable but also
unusable even for irrigation. In the extremely dry summer of 2003,
our well only prOduced about 70 gallons a day which required us to
drastically curtail household use and do laundry in Port Hadlock.
The well of our closest neighbor went completely dry. We recently
lost the sale of our back five-acre parcel as the PUD was unable to
tell the prospective buyers when the water system would be avail-
able. And if the WR17 proposed restrictions are enacted, further
wells on the island will be prohibited which would leave all unbuilt
parcels unable to be developed.
Please approve this PUD application as expeditiously as possible.
Sincerely,
. ?2 .. -y J
